Food & Drink Activities in Kona!

Kona is famous for its incredible experiences and activities it offers in the area, from coffee to chocolate farms. Kona is located in the middle of ‘coffee country’ on the Big Island and it couldn’t be in a more beautiful setting. Kona Coffee is world-renowned and considered among the best gourmet coffees in the world. If you are a coffee enthusiast, this is a must.

If you have a sweet tooth, explore a chocolate farm in the area. Chocolate is one of Hawaii’s most delicious exports and due to its tropical climate, Hawaii is the only state where chocolate can be made with locally produced cacao!

For those looking to celebrate big island style, join the Voyagers of the Pacific for their famous Luau. The Voyagers of the Pacific Luau teaches the history and culture of the islands with an incredible show on the shores of Kailua Bay. The ambiance is casual, so kick back with your favorite tropical drink and watch history come alive under the stars with beating drums, a traditional pig roast and a captivating fire and dance show.

My husband and I love the family owned coffee farms. They are nestled in the cloud forest up the mountain from The Kona Reef. I can’t tell you exactly how to get there because we usually just get in our car and drive; we pull over whenever we see something interesting. Many of the farms give little free tours and you can taste the coffees they grow.

Are you venturing into Hilo? It is the other side of the Big Island. There is a Farmer’s Market that is supposed to be 1 of the best in the world. Open every day but Fridays until 4 pm. It’s a long drive, about 2 hours, so I would go early and try to drive back before dark. The roads aren’t well lit and very curvy, also it rains a lot there.

Lobster Farm

73-4460 Queen Ka’ahumanu Hwy #103, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 (808) 329-4332

You can buy all types of shellfish here. The best thing we did was buy some lobster tails and grill them on BBQs at The Kona Reef – delicious! And beautiful with the sunset!
